Google acquired Jaiku last Tuesday Oct. 9th. This is definitely a good thing. Google Q&A
Although I believe Jaiku has a better format and function than Twitter, I still don’t see the extended purpose beyond a fad. Posting multiple times a day is just plain stupid. Who cares when someone eats or sleeps?
This can be used for displaying some basic ideas, thoughts, or happenings for long distance friends to see. There can be some limited business use for some who want to display things to multiple business contacts that subscribe.
Ultimately, anyone that wants to contact someone should just use email or a phone. The time consuming nature of these mini or micro blogs make them inefficient to use. Time will tell if this tool is just a fad.
I finally completed over 50,000 BOINC work units. Not bad when 80% of that is done on a 6 year old Mac G4. My next goal is to get under 100k on total world postion – currently 120k. Also get all 3 of the projects I participate in over 20k.

What is the point? Does anyone really care if I’m awake or asleep?
Do I care what someone had for breakfast?
I have more interesting things to waste time on. Mini-blogging is a major time waste. If the post is not worth the time to actually write it out why bother.
I removed the sidebar Twitter and Jaiku modules. If there is still a need to follow me when I post to Twitter or Jaiku, I will still provide links. Maybe, I’ll just post once a month to these services just to stay remotely involved.

Twitter
There seems to be a lot of talk about how great Twitter is. What about Jaiku?
When it comes to web badges, I like simplicity. The basic Twitter web badge can display 1-20 updates. The simple Jaiku web badge only displays most recent update. The more advanced flash web badges for both are not bad for displaying updates with or without friends. They are just too busy for me.
Since Jaiku allows feeds from other services and is not hyped up like Twitter, I tend to prefer Jaiku.
