Update went smooth and quick.
I have learned from the past two Mac OS X updates to NOT use ‘Software Update’. Instead I just download the Combo update. Then after first repairing permissions, I install the update. There was no major noticeable difference after restart in performance or appearance.
Get the Combo update from Apple’s downloads page > here < or these two great software sites.
Just search 'Apple Mac OS X – 10.5.8'
MacUpdate – specific page > here <
VersionTracker – specific page > here <
Well, It took awhile to get access to download the 3.0 software. This was not completely unexpected. All done as of 6 p.m. PST.
I searched last night to find out when the 3.0 software will be available. The only time mentioned on a few sites was 6 a.m. Cupertino time. At 6 a.m. PST the 3.0 software was not yet available through iTunes. Back to sleep.
Tried again at 3 p.m. PST with my iPod Touch. It took over an hour to get connected to the iTunes store in order to download the update. I kept press the update button like a irate monkey until I got through. Eventually, I got to the license agreement page. After accepting the agreement it took another 15 minutes to get to the actual downloading function with continual pressing of the update button or accept agreement button after first getting ‘can not connect try again later warning’.
Everything went o.k. updating my iPod Touch and iPhone 3G. All the apps that I use frequently seem to work.
This morning I saw a link on a Yahoo news section of my home page that stated that Steve Jobs would not be going to Macworld this year. And Apple will not attend Macworld in 2010 even if there is one.
According to my own Macworld info, my Expo pass states that Macworld 2010 will be January 4-8. Yes, I am still going to Macworld 2009. This will be my 3rd. Even if Apple does not attend in 2010 I would consider going depending on hoe Apple tech develops through 2009.
When I first saw the story about Apple and Macworld I googled the story for more news from different perspectives. There was only one story at 5 pm. Now at 8:45 pm there are 638 links to stories.
When trying to update my system software through Software Update to Mac OS X 10.5.6 I ran into a small snag. After downloading the update (190 MB) I did the required restart. During the install my Mac stalled on “Configuring Installation”. After about 15 minutes I gave up.
After a hard restart I checked MacFixIt for any suggestions. I downloaded the combo update directly from Apple (668 MB). Install of the Mac OS X 10.5.6 update work as expected.

Testing out blogging from iPod Touch. Only good for twitter like/style posts. Especially, since there is no copy & paste function. Typing is a bit slow using touch screen interface, but tolerable.
I would probably use twitter and display the feed in my sidebar if this becomes something I start using more often.
I recently purchased a 32 GB iPod Touch at my local Apple Store. I have been trying out a lot of apps from the iTunes App Store, mostly free ones. I will review/comment on them soon.
So far I think its great.
A list of other Apple stuff I own can be found on the Computers sub-page from the About tab.
No Mac OS X Leopard for me. I won’t be getting the new version of Mac OS X mainly due to the fact that I am still using an old Mac G4 (Quicksilver 2001). Even though I have a 1.2 Ghz G4 card installed the requirements are still on the minimum side. I don’t really need the new operating system, especially since I don’t own an Intel Mac.
I will seriously consider an new 24″ iMac in Jan 2008 after MacWorld and of course it will come with 10.5 Leopard. I am a die hard Mac user and don’t see the need to upgrade every six months. I do not consider my self an early adopter when it comes to most products mainly due to financial reasons.
I re-added a computer useage/owner subpage to the About page.
I have been an Apple computer user since the late 1970′s and an owner since the mid 1990′s. The first computer I used was an Apple II plus. I still own this computer, rescued from my mother’s garage. The first computer that I purchased for myself was an Apple Power Macintosh 7100/66 AV. I still own this. I guess I am starting a Mac collection museum.
